Dr. Jim Christenson, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Jim Christenson is an emergency physician at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. He is a Professor and past Head of the Academic Department of emergency Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. He currently is a Co-Principal Investigator for the Canadian Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium, which aims to improve care through early interventions in cardiac arrest and trauma. He is also the Principal investigator of a neuro-protective intervention given by paramedics to patients with severe stroke and Co-Principal Investigator for a multi-center trial evaluating a lower cut-point for Trononin in women. Dr. Christenson leads a team that organizes the BC Emergency Medicine Network to facilitate knowledge sharing and clinical support for all emergency practitioners in British Columbia. It is currently expanding to include nurses and is exploring how it can improve emergency care in remote indigenous communities. The Network championed the need for Real Time Virtual Support for several years and has helped implement and evaluate it since April 2020.
Dr. Kendall Ho, MD, FRCPC

Kendall Ho is a Royal College certified emergency medical specialist, a Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine, and the Lead of the Digital Emergency Medicine Unit. He is the medical director of the Healthlink BC Virtual Physicians program called HEiDi. He has been active in digital health research for over 20 years, applying innovative technologies to support patient transition between emergency departments and the community. Areas of foci for his research include: sensors and wearables development and use of big data in health care settings, health apps to improve patient care, virtual health to support care access, and raising digital health literacy for health professionals and patients. He is also the lead of the Real Time Virtual Support pillar of the BC Emergency Medicine Network. He is an advisor or member of provincial and federal Health Ministries' digital health committees, and a member of the National Research Council Medical Devices Research Centre Advisory Board. Professionally he is a member of the Canadian Virtual Care Task Force, the International Medical Informatics Association Telehealth working group, and the International Federation of Emergency Medicine Novel and Advanced Technologies Special Interest Group. Dr. Ho's work has been recognized with provincial and national awards for research and education in digital health and community engagement.
