ACES (Advanced Critical Emergency Skills) Procedures Course

ACES is a practical, hands-on, advanced emergency medicine procedures course focused on improving the acute emergency procedures skills of EM healthcare professionals. Through interactive, small-group learning, participants will improve their ability to effectively manage common, and often life-threatening emergency presentations.
Course Objectives
ACES participants will:
review basic principles and anatomical considerations for basic and advanced EM procedures;
practice advanced EM procedure skills through hands-on experiences;
diagnose and manage potential complications related to EM procedures;
and most importantly, be able to apply procedural skills learned on their next shift.
Procedures that will be covered in this course:
- Central lines & UGVA
- Chest tube and percutaneous thoracostomy
- Thoracentesis with and without ultrasound guidance
- Percutaneous cricothyrotomy
- Intraosseous insertion
- Lumbar puncture with demonstration of ultrasound guided LPs
Accreditation
This course is under review for accreditation through the College of Family Physicians of Canada and it is anticipated to be accredited for up to 8.0 Mainpro-C credits.
This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians.
