Dr. Kevin Wasko is the Chief of Emergency Medicine and Program Medical Director at North York General Hospital in Toronto, ON.
Prior to joining NYGH, he was a practicing emergency physician with Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, ON. He served as the Physician Executive for Integrated Rural Health with the Saskatchewan Health Authority from December 2017 until June 2022, holding joint responsibility for the delivery of healthcare services across rural Saskatchewan. Dr. Wasko was the physician co-lead on the Saskatchewan Health System Transition Team in 2017, leading work in physician engagement, medical governance and the academic mandate when a new provincial health authority was launched in the province. Before focusing on emergency medicine, he practiced as a rural family physician.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Dr. Wasko co-sponsored the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s COVID-19 Immunization rollout, co-chaired the Clinical Expert Advisory Committee on COVID-19 Immunization, and was a member of the Joint Management Team of the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre for COVID-19 response.
Dr. Wasko is a graduate of the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Dalhousie University, a Master of Arts in political science from the University of Calgary, and a certificate of added competence in Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM). Dr. Wasko has completed fellowship training in clinical quality improvement, was an Action Canada fellow through the Public Policy Forum, is a Surveyor with Accreditation Canada, and is a Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) through the Canadian Society of Physician Leaders. He is the 2023 recipient of the Robert Zed Young Health Leader Award from the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
